Definitions:Paper(manual)
Flat file - Single Table database
Relational Databse - Uses multiple tables
Hyper Media - Can be accessed anywhere and use anything to access it.
eg1. appointment diaryPaper(manual)Flat file -~Personal use -
~Business- electonic ones are better.
Relational Database -~a bit too complex for this type of system.
Hyper media -~you can access it anywhere, you don't need your own computer to do it.
~You can go anywhere and use anything to access it.
Eg2. Product Catalogue.Paper (manual) -~Junk mail. Easier to give away
Flat file-Relational -~Too complex to use
Hyper Media~an easier way too search
~It would have more information
~Can be updated in bits
Eg3. Personnel Records:Paper (manual)-~With a small company (2 or 3)
~Not easy to update or search.
~The more the employees the more complicated
Flat file -~Relatively small use only
~You can end up with a lot of Redundant Data
Relational Database -~You can reduce the redundant data
~You can store lots of information and have it related
~ The best way for this circumstance
~Doesnt always have to be online
Hyper Media -~The least private among all of them.
~People's data can be stolen
~For a more private thing, Hyper Media is not a good thing.
~As it needs to maintain good security/passwords.
Encryption = You are typing on the keyboard to another ISP. It is travelling along multiple lines. The data is coded so therefore theoretically you can't read the data unless you decrypt it.DATA DICTIONARY :)Definition: A database that contains definitions of all data items defined during analysis.

Make sure the data in databases are always correct(accurate)! Thus the information is also accurate.
->To help us make the data accurate we can:
e.g. Census -filled out in a paper form - to make things accurate- paper form can make things difficult.
->Sometimes they aren't undertsandable :(
~thus have the things entered online: therefore it increses the accuracy as it reduces the chance for errors.
-> If they start to put the wrongs things in the wrong area, the individual is told, and this is called
data validation. -If you have it set up, to give a certain age - it lets the range be valid - Thus the errors are more like typos. E.g. Born in 1991 and type in 1891 by accident - YOU CANT BE THAT OLD - it recognises that issue.
NOTE:Data Validation doesnt elminate errors but it reduces errors!
If a database is made of records that is consists of people. Data validation forms help improve the accuracy by sending the record to the person. It allows us to check whther the data is accurate or not. Checking with people in the database.
Security:
-Not allowing the data to be just used by just anybody.
-> To help : Log ins with different levels of restrictions for the database
Gotta have protection!
Nowadays a lot of databses wer use operate online (internet)
~You dont want people to intercept your data.... thus ENCRYPTION- (coded-other people will see it as jumbled rubbish and thus dont have way to decrypt info) - too much trouble to be broken.
~the closed lock symbol - SECURE
->It also depends on people being sensible - DONT GIVE AWAY DETAILS ~~ DONT EVER GIVE AWAY YOUR PASSWORD!
e.g. Search queries in google get sent back to google, then google sends some results back to you. 2 Way Querie

Access -A software you use to create and manage databases. A form of DBMS (Data Base Mangement System).
Things you can have in a database: Tables, Queries, Pages, Macros, Modules, Reports and Forms.
Fields - Column headings.
Field size- default:50 characters (maximum 256 characters)
Fiddle around with all the features before database is created.
Different Data Types for settingup a table
-text and memo's are the same thing but memo's are longer (more limit).
-number - different types of numbers. 7 options. It affects how much storage space is neede for each number. It can be varied a bit.
-Date/time and currency - Part of a number that is set in a particular format/way.
-Auto number - This can be used as an ID field. IT makes sure you have a different number for each record
-yes/no - also called a boolean data field (field with only 2 options)
-OLE object - How they attach it to a database.
-Hyperlink - website
-Lookup Wizard - If you have a table already done. The lookup wizard helps you find the table. It is looking up what you neeed to find.
A Primary Key: A key field which will alow you to assicate a record in this table to a record in anothe table. It is some bit of data that is somewhat unique. Every table has their own unique key. If you don't have a primary key you can't link the table to other tables.
e.g in school system each student has an ID number which will make them unique.
The process involved in making a table is COLLECTING. If it was setup so that it would go in alphabetical order it would be ORGANISING.

What is it as a system?
Released on March 11, 2009. Google Voice is a free Google-owned internet service that uses VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) to link customers.
What is it likely to do for the users?
Features of Google video include:
-A single Google number for all user's phones.
-Free calls and SMS in the contiguous US and Canada.
-Calling International phone numbers for as low as 0.01 USD per minute.
-Call screening. Announce callers based on their number or by an automated identification request for blocked numbers.
-Listen in on someone recording a voicemail before taking a call.
-Block calls.
-Send, receive, and store SMS online.
-Answer an incoming call on any of your phones.
-Phone routing. Choose which phones should ring based on who calls.
-Forwarding phones.
-Voicemail transcripts. Read voicemails online.
-Listen to voicemail online or from a phone.
-Receive notifications of voicemails via email or SMS.
-Personalized greeting that vary greetings by caller.
-The ability to forward or download voicemails.
-Conference calling.
-Record calls and store them online.
-Switch phones during a call.
-View the web inbox from a mobile device/phone.
-Set preferences for contacts by group.
-Ability to change your number for a fee.
What benefits will it have for the users?
-Cheaper
-Google voice applications in smartphones can automatically forward outgoing calls via the user's Google Voice number instead of the device's phone number.
-It provides all users with the features mentioned above; One device, many features; thus less things to own.
What are the consequences in other areas? e.g- normal phone companies
-If people make the switch to use VOIP services (google voice), normal phone companies may eventually come to end due to lack of payment from users. This is because more people will make a move towards the VOIP services and thus they will earn less money.
-When a Google Voice user returns a call, the party being called sees the device's number as opposed to the Google Voice number which sometimes confuses the receiver. To recognize calls from a Google Voice user, someone must store several different numbers in their phone.
What do you think are some of the hardware involved in this system is likely to be?
-microphone
-cell phone
-home phone
-work phone
What are some of the processes involved?
-collecting -information such as names of contacts and their number, collecting voice projections through the microphone
-organising - organising numbers under contact names, organising sounds into words/identifying what sound is what letter and language (translation)
-displaying - on the screen who is calling, who you are calling and displaying the things that you say into letters and words on screen
-transmitting and receiving - sounds back and forth in calls, emails and voicemail
-storing and retrieving - messages/mail/voicemail in phone, phone numbers, records callas and stores them online
